Notes for Deacon Samuel CHAPIN:
The time of the arrival of the family in Roxbury, Mass., is supposed to be 1635. Five children were to have arrived with their parents. The conclusion is that Henry and Josiah were born between 1630 and 1635, and as Henry is mentioned first, it is supposed that he was the elder of the two. Japhet was born in Roxbury and Hannah in Springfield, Mass.

Japhet Chapin probably for time resided in Milford, Connecticut. John Pynchon deeded land in Springfield to him in 1669. He was engaged in the battle with the Indians at Turners Falls in 1676 and was a deacon in the church in Springfield. Ebenezer Chapin was the father of thirteen children, nine of whom lived to be more than three score and ten. Five of these children (brothers) lived in the same town, their farms adjoining. He married (1) Alice COLLINS Feb 1784, daughter of Edward COLLINS and Rebecca. He married (2) Dimis CHAPMAN 9 Dec 1797 in Stafford, Connecticut.
Notes for Elias CHAPIN:
Elias and Dimis (Chapman) Chapin had moved from Stafford, Connecticut, to Madison County, New York. When the colonies attempted to throw off the yoke of British oppression, he joined the American army. He was with Washington at the time of the evacuation of the city of New York by the British. His last days were spent in Evans, Erie County, New York, where he passed away February 4, 1839. His wife died in Woodstock, New York, October 12, 1860. Several sources state that Sarah was born in Stafford, CT., not long before Elias and Dimis Chapin picked up and moved to New York. Her birth was never recorded in Stafford, probably because of the move.
